California hillsides in the dusky part of the day

Nearly naked and bathed in golden afternoon light, the rolling hills of California’s Central Coast, undulated before me. Casting shadows of purple hues, the forms became sculptures of gold. The highly contrasting colors and abstract shapes of the Los Padres Range, filled me with awe as I wound ever higher on Highway 46 outside Cambria. It was a glorious evening of elongating shadows and luminescent grasses capturing the sun’s rays. Excited at each turn of the road, every vista that spread out before me as a tapestry as old as time itself, I could hardly wait to paint this captivating scene.
