Inspired by Hospice, this work is full of symbolism. A child is depicted to portray an appreciation for the sanctity of life. Our hearts swell and our eyes well when enjoying the precious moments with a new member of our family! The child’s feet in adult flip-flops represent the overwhelming feelings one experiences when loss is too much to handle alone. The open, gentle hand offers this help. Tenderly supporting the child’s hand, it offers security while permitting the toddler to let go, in its own time, to explore the path of the butterfly. The butterfly was used to represent the freedom sometimes found in a time of letting go. mystifying with all its unexplored spaces and beauty, the ocean symbolizes the unknown mysteries of our future. The water gently caresses a rocky place. It washes our souls with the memories of others who have been here before us, as depicted by the seashells.
