Rays of golden sunlight beam through the eucalyptus groves in Montana de Oro State Park. Misty ocean air floats across the road, filtering the light with an ethereal quality. This photograph evokes a variety of emotions, drawing you into the depths of its forests and inviting you to hide among the sun-dappled boughs. Hollister Peak, between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, is usually seen from Highway 1. This spectacular view is from the top of Black Mountain on a blustery Spring day. Lush green fields surround the peak as cloud shadows scurry across the hillsides. The rolling hillsides speckled with sprawling oaks is a classic scene in California. They are particularly beautiful in the glowing late sun, which defines and colors them. Stretching shadows cast purple shapes onto the mountains, abstract forms that take on a life of their own.

Dramatic clouds above Hollister Peak

This photograph taken East from Black Mountain of Hollister Peak has a special place in my heart, since it reminds me of my sister Janice. She was visiting from Ohio and we hiked to this spot, shivering in the cold wind and watching the cloud's shadows hurry up and over the mountains. All of Morro Bay could be seen and as far as San Luis Obispo, and we were awed by the 360 degree view. It was a special day spent together that I will never forget.
