Rays of golden sunlight beam through the eucalyptus groves in Montana de Oro State Park. Misty ocean air floats across the road, filtering the light with an ethereal quality. This photograph evokes a variety of emotions, drawing you into the depths of its forests and inviting you to hide among the sun-dappled boughs. Hollister Peak, between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, is usually seen from Highway 1. This spectacular view is from the top of Black Mountain on a blustery Spring day. Lush green fields surround the peak as cloud shadows scurry across the hillsides. The rolling hillsides speckled with sprawling oaks is a classic scene in California. They are particularly beautiful in the glowing late sun, which defines and colors them. Stretching shadows cast purple shapes onto the mountains, abstract forms that take on a life of their own.

Rolling hills of Hwy 46 near Cambria

The drive from Cambria on the Central Coast over to Paso Robles wine country on Hwy 46 has panoramic views that take my breath away. On this one evening, I took many photographs that became the inspiration for my painting "Golden Hills" I highly recommend this drive to any visitor to this area. In Spring they call it "The Irish Hills" due to the green color and rolling shapes. Most of the year in our climate, they are like this, which is quite pretty also.
