Inspired by Hospice, this work is full of symbolism. A child is depicted to portray an appreciation for the sanctity of life. The child’s feet in adult flip-flops represent the overwhelming feelings one experiences when loss is too much to handle alone. The open, gentle hand offers this help. Tenderly supporting the child’s hand, it offers security while permitting the toddler to let go, in its own time, to explore the path of the butterfly. The butterfly was used to represent the freedom sometimes found in a time of letting go. mystifying with all its unexplored spaces and beauty, the ocean symbolizes the unknown mysteries of our future.
